Maidstone Grammar School and Maidstone Rugby have always enjoyed a close and beneficial relationship with many of the school rugby squads at all levels also developing their rugby skills by representing the club at youth level. Many of today's First XV played for MGS at some point including the current Club Captain Ben Williams and Old Maidstonians regularly feature for all the Senior Teams (even the Veterans).
Both the school and the club are keen to build this association further and Maidstone Rugby has happily agreed to act as 'host' to the Old Maidstonians Rugby Club and Director of Rugby Andy Foley and his senior coaching staff will support the team on Match Days. The club will aim to create a fixture list of around 5 games a year in the academic holidays if there is sufficient interest.
Last Easter two fixtures were held, in the first a team made up of boys who had left MGS in the last 3 years narrowly lost to the current MGS 1st XV in a well-balanced and very competitive match. Then on Easter Monday a highly entertaining game took place between a squad of Old Maidstonians of all ages and a squad made up of current Maidstone players from across all current teams.
Ex Maidstone youth club players who are currently studying elsewhere are also welcome to keep in contact and play in certain fixtures.
